So, hey, big news for the burger fans in the crowd: Tomorrow — that would be Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 — Shake Shack locations literally all over the world will be giving away tons of free burgers. Even better news is that if you’ve been wondering exactly how to get free Shake Shack tomorrow, I’ve got all the information you need. Few things get the internet more excited than the idea of free food, so if you want to try to capitalize on this latest offer, you’re going to need to be informed.
Why did the mighty Shack suddenly decide to grant us free stuff? What’s the occasion? Is there an occasion? As it so happens, there is: The promo is in honor of the arrival of Shake Shack’s 100th location, which will be opening its doors at the Boston Seaport at 77 Seaport Boulevard in Massachusetts on Aug. 16. Incidentally, the new Shack will be right by the Boston Children’s Museum, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art — all of which, speaking as a native Bostonian, I can assure you are pretty rad. So, y’know, go! Have fun! Museum yourself until you can museum no more, and then stuff yourself full of burgers! It will be glorious!
But I digress.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Shake Shack locations all over the world will be giving out free single ShackBurgers (or a burger of equal or lesser value) to the first 100 customers on Tuesday before noon starting at 10:30 a.m. Said Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti in a press release:
From our first-ever Shack in Madison Square Park 12 years ago, to so many incredible places in between, opening our 100th Shack at Boston Seaport is an epic milestone for us. We’re overwhelmed by the love and enthusiasm from our fans around the world, and this moment wouldn’t be possible without them. Here’s to bringing more Shacks to local communities around the world!
Hear, hear, especially since it means free treats for the lucky ones among us! But how, exactly, do we go about collecting those free treats? Basically you just have to show up at a Shake Shack at the right time — but if you need a little more to go on than that, here you go:
1. Find Your Friendly Neighborhood Shake Shack
The official Shake Shack locator will come in handy here. You can either look up your state or country and see all the locations there in a list — or, you can give the site access to your location via GPS and it will show you where the nearest Shack to you is on a cute little map. The only catch is that the offer isn’t in operation at stadium or ballpark locations, so don’t show up at the Shack in Citi Field and expect to be able to get a free burger.
2. Arrive At The Appointed Time
Although Shake Shack’s opening time is typically 11 a.m. (unless you live near one of the few Shake Shacks that serve breakfast, in which case they can open as early as 7:30 a.m.), on Aug. 16, they’ll be opening their doors at 10:30 a.m. to bestow free burgers upon the masses.
Here’s where it starts to get a little tricky, though: Depending on how heavily populated your area is and how popular Shake Shack is there, you might have to line up substantially earlier than the opening time in order to ensure success. I don’t know if it’s going to be like lining up for Shakespeare in the Park in New York, where if you’re not in the line-that-forms-before-the-line-is-actually-allowed-to-form by about 2 a.m., you’re not getting tickets… but I wouldn’t expect to show up at 10:30 on the nose and expect to walk away with a free burger. Just sayin’.
3. Be One Of The First 100 People In Line
This is why your arrival time matters: Only the first 100 people to walk through the Shack’s doors will get free food.
4. Enjoy Your Burger
If you got there as early as I think you did to get a free burger, you deserve it.
