It's a sad day in Hollywood as another beloved celebrity couple has officially called it quits. Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson have broken up, both of their reps confirmed to People Monday. "Diane Kruger and Josh Jackson have decided to separate and remain friends," the statement from their reps reads. With that, let me just ask the question I know their biggest shippers are probably wondering. Why did Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson split? Not much is known, save for the fact that it is extremely sad for sure.
On Friday, July 15, the two were last spotted in New York City, which was also Kruger's 40th birthday. As she shared on Instagram alongside an image of herself, "It's my party and I cry if I want to #happyFridayeverybodyandthankyouforallthebirthdaywishes #anewbeginning." Be sure to take note of that last hashtag, which may very well be in reference to "a new beginning" without Jackson by her side. Or, it means nothing at all and only suggests new things will come from turning 40. It's unclear when they actually split, but if it was before Kruger's birthday, then I guess they truly are remaining friends.
Kruger also shared an interesting quote from Jimi Hendrix on IG Monday reading: "...the story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye. The story of love is hello and good-bye until we meet again." Either the actor is trying to tell her fans something about her personal life, or she just really loves Hendrix.
In April, rumors circulated alleging Kruger and The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus were having an affair. The two starred together in Sky. In December 2015, there were even reports that they were spotted making out in New York City. At this time, the rumors are still just rumors. It remains to be seen if these allegations influenced Kruger and Jackson's split. Bustle has reached out to Kruger's rep about the rumors, but has not yet received a response.
Kruger and Jackson definitely made an impact as a couple and never budged in conforming to the so-called traditions of a relationship, especially when it came to marriage. It was just one of the many reasons why they were so adored. While talking with Glamour in October 2014, Jackson discussed why he and Kruger weren't married. He said,
"I can tell you why we’re not married: We’re not religious. I don’t feel any more or less committed to Diane for not having stood in front of a priest and had a giant party. We’re both children of divorce, so it’s hard for me to take marriage at face value as the thing that shows you’ve grown up and are committed to another person. But it may change at some point. We may get married."
Sadly, that no longer seems like it will happen. It's definitely a bummer that they went their separate ways, but if they're happier apart, then I guess that's all that matters. I know I will miss them as a couple — you know, if they never get back together. Hey, it could happen.
