Goodreads users in the U.S. never have to miss a digital sale again, thanks to a new service from the Amazon-owned social network for book nerds. Goodreads Deals alerts you when e-books on your TBR shelf go on sale. The feature also allows users to receive alerts when books from their favorite authors or genres are discounted.
A Tuesday blog post unveiled the new service, advised users on how to get the most out of their Goodreads Deals alerts, and offered a sneak peek at some of the site's curated e-book discounts. Those titles included Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and Misery by Stephen King.
Although Goodreads is owned by Amazon, Kindle and non-Kindle users alike will benefit from Goodreads Deals. The new service finds e-book discounts at iBooks, Google Play, Kobo, and even Nook. Users may select which e-book retailers they wish to receive alerts for after signing up for Goodreads' new service.
Signing up to receive Goodreads Deals alerts takes about 30 seconds, no joke. Just verify your password and customize your settings, and you're done. Users who want to receive alerts by genre should note that Goodreads Deals only offers four categories — Bestsellers, Romance, Mystery & Thrillers, and Fantasy & Science Fiction — to start, but the bookish social site plans to expand this service as time goes on.
