This Is Not Laurence Fishburne
Just so we all start off on the same page here, Samuel L. Jackson was not in The Matrix, but you probably knew that already. Someone who wasn't as clear about this fact is Sam Rubin, a Los Angeles news anchor who mistook Samuel L. Jackson for Laurence Fishburne during an interview this morning. Rubin tried to start of the interview about RoboCop by asking Jackson about his Super Bowl commercial and what he thought was an innocent question went horribly awkward when Jackson stared blankly at the camera before responding, "What Super Bowl commercial?"
Rubin then looks confused and gets an explanation from someone off camera before quickly apologizing. Jackson doesn't let him off the hook so easily though. Actually, he doesn't let him off the hook at all. Jackson says, "You're as crazy as the people on Twitter! I'm not Laurence Fishburne!" Rubin tries several times to get the interview back on track and Jackson awesomely refuses to let him. He calls himself "the other guy" and says that there's "more than one black guy doing a commercial." No amount of "lets get to RoboCops" can help Rubin as Jackson comes at him with comment after comment even saying, "The line for your job must be short."
The whole thing is hilarious and while it's easy to feel awkward on behalf of Rubin, he totally deserved it. It's pretty important to know the name of the person you're interviewing and while a lot of guests might have been calmer about it, after this he won't forget to do his research ever again.
This isn't the first time Jackson has intimidated a reporter during an interview. Last year while promoting Django Unchained, Jackson refused to answer a question about the "n-word" saying that he wouldn't answer unless the reporter said the full word. "We're not gonna have this conversation unless you say it," he said. "It wasn't a great question if you can't say the word."
