Prolific science fiction and fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has a new YA trilogy on the way, according to a press release from Delacorte. The first book in his new series is currently scheduled for a Spring 2018 release.
According to the publisher:
The Apocalypse Guard series is set in a world parallel to that of the Reckoners, and an organization of superpowered individuals is at its center. Their collective objective is to save doomed planets, until the day something goes horribly wrong and it is up to one young member of the guard to fix things before time runs out for her and the planet she calls home.
Sanderson's Reckoners trilogy — which began with Steelheart in 2013 — wrapped up with the February 16 release of Calamity. News that The Apocalypse Guard might be somehow related to the Reckoners has generated plenty of fan chatter across the Internet.
As Tor points out, "[t]he Reckoners isn't part of the Cosmere" — Sanderson's created universe — "that Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, and other books take place within." The mention of the Reckoners in The Apocalypse Guard's description has fans wondering whether Sanderson has decided to create another universe for his YA offerings.
