Angelina stole the show at the Grammys

by Samantha Schnurr

In between lackluster performances from the 2014 Grammy Awards, the newest trailer from Disney's Maleficent aired and it might be safe to say that it was the best performance of the night thus far. The trailer opened with a haunting version of the Sleeping Beauty original song "Once Upon a Dream," only this time it didn't have the timbre of a happy-go-lucky bubblegum princess. It was dark, creepy, and sung beautifully by the rising queen of film theme songs, Lana Del Rey.

Then we spotted Angelina Jolie on the screen, but the movie star was almost unrecognizable with a face painted emerald and carved out by contouring that is far superior to any New Jersey beauty guru's YouTube tutorial. Her cat-eye contacts could pierce any soul and were scary enough to bring on frightened tears from even the toughest of biker dudes.

Elle Fanning stars alongside Jolie as the film's blonde maven, Princess Aurora. While the plot is still tightly under wraps, the trailer seems to present the classic fairytale from the hardened perspective of the green villainess, Maleficent, a la what Wicked did for the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz.

The film, which is set to release on May 30, will also be the first time that Jolie shares the silver screen with one of her children, daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. Vivienne can also be seen in the trailer running through the fields as a young Aurora.

Vivienne already has mom's lips — hopefully, she has her acting chops, as well. As we can tell from the latest trailer, Jolie certainly has some big acting chops and is serving them up tenfold for this film. We can't wait.
