Michelle Obama's SOTU Dress Is Her Best One Yet
In case you missed it, President Obama gave his State of the Union Address on Tuesday, and he addressed the major issues he'll focus on in the last year of his presidency. Obama discussed everything from the pay gap to GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz in his hour-long speech. Although I was paying attention to President Obama during his speech, I did find myself slightly distracted by one thing — the First Lady's dress. After one look, I had to find out where to buy Michelle Obama's State of the Union dress.
The First Lady stunned in an orange sleeveless sheath, which she paired with loose waves and neutral makeup. This bright dress is a departure from 2015's grey tweed Michael Kors suit, and I love that FLOTUS wore one of her signature bright, sleeveless dresses for what will be her last State of the Union as the First Lady. Before President Obama's speech, the couple arrived at the U.S. Capitol together, and the First Lady accessorized the dress with a bold purple coat and matching belt. It's an unexpected color combo, but the bright jewel tones worked so well on her. Here's a better look at her dress.
I mean, how perfect the cut of this dress?!
The First Lady totally stood out amid a sea of dark suits and dresses in her bold-colored frock. (So did Dr. Jill Biden's bright dress, which I also love).
Here's the couple leaving the White House before Obama's speech. The deep eggplant-colored coat she paired with the bright dress looks perfect with the addition of the belt. If you're wondering where to buy the dress, like I am, you may be able to solve the mystery on Twitter.
The two dresses look totally similar, right? Michelle Obama famously wore the designer on the night of her husband's 2008 election, so I can definitely see her turning to him again for this special event.
Narcisco Rodriguez Sleeveless Banded-Bodice Midi Dress in Marigold, neimanmarcus.com
Unfortunately, the dress, which was available at Neiman Marcus, is sold out. Total bummer, right? Luckily, I've rounded up a few alternatives you can shop right now.
Ivanka Trump Sunburst Side-Pleat Dress, $134, lordandtaylor.com
Believe me, the irony is not lost on me that this dress comes from Donald Trump's daughter's collection, but it's a pretty close match to Michelle Obama's.
Cooperative Ponte Shift Dress, $29.99, urbanoutfitters.com
This shift dress from Urban Outfitters (currently on major sale) has a cinched waist reminiscent of the First Lady's dress, and its length makes it perfect for shorter gals.
Ciara Cinch Dress, $98, kiyonna.com
I love this wrap dress from Kiyonna. The longer sleeves make this ideal for colder weather, and the color is basically a perfect match to FLOTUS' dress.
Although there's currently no way to get your hands on Michelle Obama's actual dress, these alternatives are perfect for copying her flawless SOTU look.
