Here's an odd couple for you. Kelly Osbourne mingled with singer Bette Midler at The Blonds showing at NYFW, all the while matching her light purple hair to her lipstick. Need a second to take it all in, since there is a lot going on with that statement? Go ahead. You process; I'll wait.
Osbourne, whose has a punky and somewhat irreverent style that I love, was seated with Midler, a supreme diva, at this NYFW show. They seem like an odd pairing at first, but when you think about it, they actually aren't. Both have uniquely beautiful looks. Midler has always had a quirky stage style, while Osbourne has never been afraid to experiment.
It reminds me of that time that Lady Gaga hung out with Barbra Streisand. It was a collision of genres, generations, and styles! I love when that happened with Gaga and Babs and now with Kelly and Bette.
Possible arbitrary seating arrangements aside, we really do need to talk about Osbourne's matchy matchy makeup triumph. It's never easy to pull off matching hair and lipstick, since the features end up going mano y mano for attention.
But Osbourne, who posts the best no makeup selfies, has done the unthinkable. The lavender hair has been her thing for quite a while now. It's a loud and bold color, one that she often pairs with red lips.
But for NYFW, she went purple-on-purple. While her hair had a silvery sheen, her lips were a solid, almost chalky matte. It was two bright pops of purple above the neck, but I loved it.
Why does it work? Well, the fact that her hair was swept off her face in a pompadour puts some distance between each purple feature. If she wore her hair down and framing her face, that would have been a whole lot of purple concentrated in one area.
Osbourne also kept the rest of her makeup look minimal. She rocked shimmery, white eye shadow and a black, cat eye. But overall, her skin looked soft and bare, with just a hint of blush.
If you have brown hair or pink hair or blue hair or black hair and you want to match your lips to your strands, you have to do the same.
Try to wear your hair off your face so you don't look like a big blob of whatever color your pumping. Go minimal with everything else. And then you should be good to go.
But Osbourne is proof that you can rock a lot of different lip shades with an odd coif color that's not found in nature.
She has done a bright, deep red.
A soft, barely there pink lip and lavender locks also made for a nice combo. It didn't come across as too Easter basket-y, either. And it could have, if not handled with care.
The former Fashion Police host also rocked a glossy, berry stain for the Bordeaux lip look.
She has done the purple-on-purple thing before since she is fearless. She just goes for it.
I hope Osbourne never, ever ditches her purple locks! I so want that leather dress.
Osbourne is such a punky fashion icon on so many levels. #Truth.
