Jessica Simpson Has Some Harsh Words For Her Ex

Remember those days in the early aughts you spent watching Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey on their reality show Newlyweds? Well, the fashion entrepreneur also remembers that time with her now ex-husband, and somewhat unsurprisingly, she has less than heartwarming or nostalgic feelings about the whole thing. In a recent interview with CNBC, Jessica Simpson said her marriage to Nick Lachey was her biggest money mistake.

Here's the scoop: Simpson made a special appearance on Closing Bell to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her super successful namesake clothing and accessories brand. The interviewer asked Simpson what she thought her biggest financial mistakes have been so far. The 35-year-old replied, "The biggest money mistakes? I don't know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage!" The interviewer followed up by saying, "That's actually a common answer, believe it or not."

It is entirely possible that the mogul, like many others, lost money in her divorce. But unlike others, Simpson made the admission about her marriage being a financial error on quite a public platform. That said, anyone who has been following her closely will likely not be surprised by the reveal. This is just the latest proof that Simpson and Lachey still have an incredibly icy relationship.

Their 2005 divorce was highly publicized. Any end of a marriage is difficult, but what made things even trickier was the public interest in the reality show entirely based on their marriage and lives as newlyweds that preceded it, not to mention their value as tabloid fodder. Though the former reality stars are now both married to other people (and even have children), it is clear that they still remain cool toward one another.

In 2010, the former flames had what sounds like a super awkward run-in at a Hollywood restaurant. They were both on date night at The Red O, Lachey with his now-wife Vanessa Minnillo, and Simpson with her now-husband Eric Johnson. When she was asked about bumping into him during a women's conference, she told USA Today, "He was at the same restaurant. I didn't speak to him."

This recurring theme continued when Lachey revealed in 2013 on Watch What Happens Live that he had not spoken to his ex-wife at all in six years. When asked by host Andy Cohen if he ever reminisces by watching old eps of Newlyweds, the 98 Degrees band member replied, "I have not. As you can imagine, that's not popular viewing in my house. We don't sit around as a family and watch the old DVDs." And in 2014, the 41-year-old said on a Sirius XM radio interview that it was the "best thing" that he did not have children with Simpson.

Well, it is safe to say that with Simpson's latest less-than-flattering quote about Lachey, these two will likely continue not to meet up and shoot the breeze anytime soon. And since they are both obviously happy with their current significant others and lives, perhaps it is for the best.
